Our Political Priorities for the 2025–2030 Mandate

June 16, 2025

Following months of discussions among liberal and democrat subnational leaders, we are proud to announce the formal adoption of the political priorities of the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) for the 2025–2030 mandate.

At a time of geopolitical uncertainty, climate urgency, and social transformation, liberals and democrats are reaffirming their commitment to building a more prosperous, secure, democratic, and inclusive Europe. With subnational governments implementing two-thirds of EU legislation and contributing half of all public investment in the European Union, the priorities set out in this new CoR mandate are designed to empower local and regional authorities as key players in shaping Europe’s future by helping EU legislators have a better understanding of how the Union is functioning on the ground. Our vision for 2025–2030 focuses on three core pillars:

A Prosperous and Competitive Europe
We will champion innovation, support SMEs, accelerate the green transition, promote digital and AI-ready skills, and ensure rural vitality through fair agricultural policies and smart infrastructure.

A Strong and Secure Europe
From building resilient infrastructure to strengthening civil preparedness and defending democracy, we are committed to safeguarding EU values and citizens in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

A Democratic Union of Rights and Responsibilities
We will continue to uphold cohesion, tackle demographic challenges, support affordable housing, and lead on inclusion and equality. We will also drive effective enlargement, including support for Ukraine’s accession and reconstruction.

In the 2025 – 2030 CoR mandate, subnational leaders will continue to act as bridges between EU institutions and local and regional realities, ensuring that EU policies are responsive to the needs of communities across Europe. From boosting citizen engagement to promoting EU values, our priorities underline the essential role of regional and local leaders in shaping a Union that works for everyone. With these new commitments, we will work relentlessly to bring Europe closer to its citizens, and ensure that no region or community is left behind.
